PURVIS, JR., JOSEPH GARFIELD, 61, of Cape May Court House, NJ, died on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at his home. He was born in Nashville, NC, the son of the late Joseph Garfield and Bessie Arrington Purvis, Sr. He was a resident here since 1984 coming from New York. He was a finisher and patcher of yachts for the Canyon Club Marina. He served in the US Army during the Viet Nam Era having served in the Presidential Unit for President Richard Nixon. He was a member of the Christ Gospel Church. He enjoyed gospel music; he played saxophone and played in jazz bands. He also enjoyed restoring old cars and was a Redskins fan. He is survived by his wife, Gail A.; four chiildren: Sherry D. Flintosh of Hainesport; Mark S. Kowalsky (Joyce) of Denver, Pa; Gary J. Kowalsky (Ava) of Williamstown and David A. Kowalsky (Mary) of Riverside; a sister, Rosa May Wilder of Chapel Hill, NC and three brothers-in-laws: Robert and John Fiot and Nathan Fiot (Carlyn) and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010, at 11 am at Christ Gospel Church, 2209 Rt. 9, Whitesboro, NJ where friends may visit from 10 to 11 am. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation, 1425 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove, NJ 07099.
