OLEKSIAK, CASIMER A., age 93, of West Cape May, NJ, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 17, 2015. Casimer or Chet, was born in 1921 to Joseph and Julia (Tisowska) Oleksiak, in Harrison, NJ. In 1942, Chet enlisted into the US Navy where he earned the individual Commendation Medal and the Asiatic American Area Medal 3 stars, among others. Chet was a lifelong member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters Union, Local 253, Essex County, NJ. He was always a big contest winner using his strength and skill at their picnics. He was an area Boy Scout Leader and member of the Methodists Mens Group in Passaic, NJ. In 1986, he retired to West Cape May where he became a member of St. John Neumann Parish, Cape May VFW, and the local chapter 44 if the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Chet wintered in Estero, Florida as well. He had the best of both worlds. His hobbies included fishing, watching sports, and remodeling his houses. He had a strong work ethic and a great sense of humor. Chet is predeceased by his brother Edward Oleksiak, sister, Irene Ewing, and brother-in-law Dick Ewing. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Alice, daughter Betsy, son Jimi O (Kathy), daughter Margaret (Chuck) and daughter Eileen (Jerry). He also leaves behind 3 grandchildren, Justin (Rachel), Elise and Charles; and 2 great grandchildren, Josiah and Scarlet. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2:00 pm on Thursday, September 24th at St. John Neumann Parish at St. John Of God Church, 680 Townbank Road, N Cape May, NJ Friends may call from Thursday from 1 to 2 pm at the church. Burial will be in Cape May County Veteran’s Cemetery, Cape May Court House. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Cape May VFW Scholarship Fund, 419 Congress Str., Cape May, NJ 08204.
