NIELSEN, ROBERT C., 80, formerly of Avalon, passed away peacefully in his home in Smyrna, Delaware on August 13, 2013. After graduating Middle Township High School Class of 51, he joined the Army during the Korean War. During the 1960s and 70s, Robert and his business partner Thomas Charlesworth formed Nielsen and Charlesworth Builders and later Holiday Realty in Avalon. Robert was an avid golfer, bowler fisherman, hiker, bike rider, archer and traveler but most of all storyteller. He amused his friends and strangers alike with his adventures of driving across the country and the people he encountered along the way. Robert loved life, people, animals and nature. He will be missed by many people. Robert is survived by his four sons, Robert Nielsen of Rio Grande, William Nielsen (Jean) of Wildwood, Edward Nielsen (Joy) of Erma and Brian Nielsen of Spokane, Washington; three daughters, Kathleen Gadsby (David) of Rio Grande, Patricia Milke (Glenn) of Cape May Court House, Melissa Conover of Green Creek; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years Mary in 1998 and his daughter Teresa in 1995. Burial is private at the request of the family.
