MONROE, JAMES KEARNEY, age 91, of North Cape May passed away peacefully on Monday, April 17, 2017 at his home. Monroe was born October 12, 1925 in Miami, FL. He served in the US Navy during World War II and later the US Navy Reserves completing 20 years of service, attaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He worked for 34 years at Jack Frost Sugar Co., Philadelphia, PA becoming the Head of Maintenance and Management. He had resided in the Cape May area since 1997. Monroe was a member of the Elks and the VFW in Villas He also had been President of the Senior Citizens Club of the Far North East Philadelphia. Monroe enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, especially helping coach football for his grandsons. Monroe was preceded in death by his wife Victoria J. Kearney (2007). He is survived by three children: Genevieve “Dolly” Bonner of NJ, son James Kearney of FL, and Viola “Vi” Ferriter of DE. He also leaves five grandchildren, Janiene Victoria Pitt, Peter Conti, Kimberly Gilligen, Katy Unfried and Edward Ferriter; eight great-grandchildren, Julia Pitt, Katherine “Kayce” Pitt, Jake Conti, Patrick Gilligen, Michael Gilligen, Shane Gilligen and JJ and Skylar Unifried. A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm on Saturday, April 22 at Calvary Chapel of Cape May, 596 Seashore Rd, Erma, NJ 08204, where relatives and friends will be received from 12 to 1 PM. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Calvary Chapel of Cape May or Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9, Swainton, NJ 08210.
