MEHL, GEORGE “DOB”, 83, of Stone Harbor and Cape May Court House, NJ passed away as a result of cancer on February 12, 2014. George was born in Philadelphia, PA on April 17, 1930 to George and Maud Mehl. He was raised in Philadelphia and summered his whole life in Stone Harbor. George was employed in the advertising business and the boating industry for over 35 years in Massachusetts before semi-retiring to Stone Harbor in 1987. He founded the Curves franchise of Middle Township in 2006. Dob loved the water and was an avid racing and cruising sailor. He was a proprietary member of the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor where he volunteered his time on the Race Committee for many years. Dob was a Past Commodore of MAYRA and a USYRU Judge. He was a Power Squadron member for decades. He was also actively involved in The Republican Club and the ROA in Stone Harbor, and the Stone Harbor and Middle Township Chamber of Commerce. He is survived by his dedicated children, Steve (Barbara) Mehl of Cape May Court House, NJ and Lauren (Richard) Kinsman, Gary (Debby) Mehl and Cindy (Danny) Lazarovich, all of Massachusetts. Known as “Papa” to his grandchildren, he leaves his sailing legacy to Jake (Samantha) Mehl, Stephanie (Rob) Brooks, Leslie Cook, Mallory and Tyler Mehl, and Daniel, Sarah and Hannah Lazarovich; as well as three great-granddaughters; and a special niece, Tice Supplee. George was predeceased by his believed wife, and love of his life, Mattie (Falcon) Mehl. Dob will most be remembered for his selfless acts of service to sailors, community and family; as well as his quick smile, hearty laugh and glass of iced tea. A joint celebration of life for both George and Mattie will be held at The Lighthouse Church, 1248 Rte 9, Cape May Court House on Saturday, March 8th at 11am with visiting beginning at 10am.
