McMANUS, CATHERINE “KAREN”, 82, of Cape May, passed away on Thursday, August 29th, 2013 at Atlantic Care Medical Center surrounded by her family. She was born in Toronto Canada in 1931 but moved to Cape May with her husband James McManus in 1985 where they made their final home. She is predeceased by her loving husband James McManus and brother and sister in law Robert and Lorenda (Lennie) McManus. Karen will be dearly missed by her surviving family which includes nieces Linda DeRouin (McManus) and husband Andrew, Lisa Caprio (McManus) and husband Ralph Caprio and nephew Robert T. McManus Jr. as well as grandniece Linda Petrosino (Caprio), grandnephews Eric Caprio, Andrew James DeRouin and Robert DeRouin. She was an articulate and intelligent woman who led an active lifestyle up to her sudden death. At 82 she was working full time at the Beachcomber Camping Resort where she has been employed by the Brodesser family since arriving in Cape May. She loved her job and the many longtime friends she made there. She and James were generous people who contributed to many charities but they especially shared a love for animals. They provided a loving home for many homeless cats that would otherwise have not have been saved and have made a generous contribution to the Humane Society to continue those efforts. Special thanks to Tony Lardani for adopting her beloved “Peggy” and being such a caring and helpful friend. Funeral services are private.
