MAURER, JEANNETTE L., “JEAN”, age 94, of Cold Spring, NJ passed on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Jeannette was born January 4, 1922 in Philadelphia, PA; and has been a Cape May area resident since 1927. She is the daughter of the late Frank L Sr. and the late Katharine (Moore) Rosell. Jean was a 1939 graduate of Middle Township High School; worked at the Rio Grande Post Office from 1950 to 1972 (instigated mail delivery there) becoming the “Officer in Charge”; and later served as Postmaster at Post Office in Cape May Point, NJ from 1973 to 1976. She was a member of the Rio Grande Bible Baptist Church since the age of 12; a former member of the Rio Grande Fire Company Auxiliary (1948-1973); past Matron of Arbutus Chapter # 146 (1960-1961); and a member of the Order of Eastern Star (for 68 years). Jean spent 35 years as a “snow bird” with her second husband Fred, wintering in Florida. She enjoyed being with family, reading, gardening, knitting, many fishing trips, and of course many pet dogs – her last being “Foxy”. Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Frank L Rosell, Jr. and wife Peggy; her sister Katherine M Peterson and husband William; her sister Marion E Wright and husband James; her son Ralph Raymond Peterson in 1977; her stepson Frederick T Maurer in 2012; her first husband Lucius E Peterson in 1966; and her second husband Frederick J Maurer in 2012. She is survived by her son: Lewis E (Joanne) Peterson; her step daughter Linda J (Edward) Gordon; her step son Glenn T (Lyda) Maurer; her daughter-in-law C. Ellen Peterson; and her step daughter-in-law Patricia Maurer. Also surviving are: six grandchildren and spouses, 13 step grandchildren and spouses; eight great-grandchildren; 23 step great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; 1 step great-great grandchild; and many nieces & nephews. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, 780 Seashore Rd, Cold Spring, NJ 08204.
