MATHIS, PAUL JAMES, 61, of Palermo, NJ passed away on Monday, June 17, 2013 at his home. Born in Camden, NJ, he was formerly of Dennisville, NJ and a resident of Palermo, NJ for 23 years. Mr. Mathis was a Summa Cum Laude graduate of Assumption College in Worcester, MA and received his Masters Degree from Wesleyan University in Hartford, CT. He worked as an Educator for Lower Cape May Regional School District for 38 years before his retirement. Mr. Mathis was a member of N.J.E.A., N.J.T.E, the Tribeca Honor Society for music and St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish in Marmora, NJ. He also served as the Director of the Theatre at Lower Cape May Regional High School. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Violande Mathis, a daughter, Anne Marie, a son, Anthony, grandson, Blake, a sister, Barbara Gale (John) of North Carolina, his mother, Anne Mathis, niece, Jacquelyn Gale and two aunts, Rosemary Morello and Gerry Morello, cousins, Joan Malega (Mike)and Cara Gustafson (Eric). Friends may call Friday evening from five until eight oclock and Monday morning from half past ten until half past twelve oclock at The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday afternoon at one oclock from the Church of the Resurrection of St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 200 West Tuckahoe Road, Marmora, NJ. A Graveside Funeral Service will be on Tuesday at 12 oclock noon in Holy Rood Cemetery, 111 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY.
