MAIER, KENNETH HENRY, 91, of Wildwood, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. Born on February 23, 1922 in Pittsburgh PA, he was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Jean Marie (nee Pitt) Maier. Ken served in World War II as a Marine and was promoted to platoon sergeant. He saw combat in the Pacific Theater and was in battles at Iwo Jima and Guam. After the war, he attended Thiel College where he met his wife, Evangeline Skegas, and graduated with a degree in chemistry. After working as a chemist at the Duquesne Light Company in Pittsburgh, he and his wife moved to New York City to follow their youthful dreams. The theater was Ken’s first calling and he acted on stage and in television, most notably in the show You Are There hosted by Walter Cronkite. After his work in acting, he started a career with Colgate Palmolive in New York City in their product development division and worked there for almost 20 years. After retiring, Ken and his wife moved to Wildwood where he was active with the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship and the St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in North Wildwood. He was a born mechanical engineer and was an expert at construction and any type of mechanical, electrical or plumbing repair. He had an extensive array of tools and used them all with expertise and ease. He also enjoyed cooking and gardening. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Evangeline Skegas Maier and his three children, Madeleine Said, Adrienne Sandstedt and Kenneth Maier and their spouses and by his granddaughter, Ariana Said. A viewing will be held on Sunday, January 26, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House. Funeral services will be on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 321 Saint Demetrios Avenue, North Wildwood.
