LEX, EDWARD G., 72, of Wildwood/Ft.

LEX, EDWARD G., 72, of Wildwood/Ft. Lauderdale, Fla passed away suddenly at his home in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. Born in Camden and raised in the Cramer Hill section of New Jersey. His early years were all baseball, he played baseball for U.S. Army (Ft. Lee Travelers). He was the winning pitcher in two Army baseball championship games. His pitching and first base skills placed Ed in the “1960” Street and Smiths baseball year book as a true-pro-prospect. After he came home he managed the Hot Stovers baseball team in Camden. He was a proud and loyal member of International Heat & Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Union Local #89 where he enjoyed working with his union brothers for more than 30 years. Ed was also a local favorite bartender starting at the Hurricane East (Wildwood) then with his true friends Skeets at 23 Skido in Cherry Hill, Sid Hess at Sid’s Place (Cape May) and Pat Ward at the Shamrock Cafe (Wildwood). In 1970 Ed purchased his shore dream home “Toledo Ave” where his family and many dear friends enjoyed his Wildwood Crest beach home. After retiring Ed moved to Ft. Lauerdale, Fla. his winter playground where family and friends also enjoyed his fun life where he was known as “Wildwood Ed”. He returned often to New Jersey to do what he enjoyed most of all, the joy of visiting his 4 gandchildren whom he was very proud of and loved very much. He was an avid Phillies fan and loved talking baseball with a cold bottle of Bud. He also loved boating with friends and family. He was a devoted son, brother, a loving and giving father and grandfather, uncle and friend. He touched the lives of many and will be sadly missed by all. Our family would ask that on July 4th at 4pm (His Birthday) you raise your glass and toast to the life of our father and your friend Ed. He would have enjoyed that. Thank you and God Bless.
