LEONARD, JOYCE PATRICIA (nee: Peterson), age 73, of Waldwick, formerly of Ridgewood and Sea Isle City, passed away on Thursday, January 30th. Devoted wife of Robert Leonard. Beloved mother of Kim Leonard Martin, Sean Leonard and his wife Catherine and Robert Leonard and his wife Gabriella. Cherished grandmother of Cassie, William, Kate, Caroline, Patrick, Eleanor and Claudia. Loving sister of Roseanne Wasserman and Katherine Peterson. Born in Sea Isle City, NJ on March 17th, 1940 to the late Lawrence and Margaret Peterson, she attended Ocean City High School. In 1947, her name was placed over the JoyAnn Bakery by her father and hung there through several decades. She moved to Bergen County after graduating from Montclair College where she raised her family but returned every summer to share her love for the ocean, meadows, and sunsets with her children and grandchildren. An artist, art teacher, and devoted mother, she later opened the Ridgewood Yoga Studio, put herself through nursing school and worked as an RN at Van Dyke’s Nursing Home in Ridgewood. She was a parishioner and lector of St. Lukes RC Church in Ho-Ho-Kus and a former parishioner of St. Joseph’s RC Church in Sea Isle City. Visitation is scheduled for family and friends at St. Luke’s RC Church, 340 N. Franklin Turnpike in Ho-Ho-Kus on Tuesday, February 4th between 11 and 12. A memorial mass will follow at 12. Friends and family are welcome to join the family in celebrating her life anytime during the afternoon at the Tamaron Clubhouse in Waldwick, NJ. Interment will be private in Sea Isle City, NJ.
