KATITY, GEORGE EDWARD

KATITY, GEORGE EDWARD (“Coach K”), age 63, of Cape May Court House, NJ & Philadelphia, PA passed away Thursday, December 23, 2016 surrounded by family. George was born to Bernard & Elizabeth (James) Orensky on August 18, 1953, and raised by John & Letitia Mae Katity. He graduated from Middle Township High School in 1971 and went on to earn an AA in Social Sciences, BA in Sports Administration, PhD in Christian Counseling, and a BA in Bible. From 1971-1982 he served his country honorably in Vietnam, Germany and stateside in the Army and Navy as an Intelligence Specialist. Always loving sports, he then began working as an Athletic Director, Physical Education Teacher and Coach in WV and NJ Christian Schools. Coach K served for over 30 years leading his basketball teams to two state championships, two national regional championships, and over 300 career wins attaining a 71% winning average. He dearly loved the kids! George also worked outside athletics as a driver for CASA payroll and Bishop McHugh Catholic School. He was a member of the Cape May Court House American Legion, Post #198 and also enjoyed his hobby of painting. He loved the Lord and embraced not only his Christian faith but also his Jewish heritage. He attended the Erma Tabernacle & Avalon UMC. George is survived by his wife Marjorie of Swainton, son Jonathan (Leslie), grandchildren Christopher and Dylan, brother Bernard, sister Linda, brother-in-laws: Daniel (Linda) Gilliam and David (Tammi) Pritchard, nephews/nieces: Danny Jr, (Michelle), Joseph (Jennifer), Julia Rose, Ryan (Kristen), Jack Rylie, Alexander, Amber and Daxon. He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard, Elizabeth, John, & Letitia; brother James; and son Joshua James Katity. Funeral services with Rev. Glenn A Scheyhing of Tabernacle UMC officiating will be held at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204 on Monday, January 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
