JACKSON, THE REVEREND MARGARET

JACKSON, THE REVEREND MARGARET “JOAN”, 78, of Cape May Beach passed away suddenly and peacefully on Tuesday, September 3, 2013. Born in Greenport, Long Island, NY, “Mother Joan” as she was known, has been a resident of the Cape May area since 2001. She attended Greenport LI NY schools, St John’s Hospital Nursing School, Dominican College, Empire College and the Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkley CA, where she received her Masters of Divinity degree. During her nursing career she worked at a number of medical facilities in New York, including Pearl River General Hospital, Nyack Hospital and Rockland Psychiatric Center, where she implemented their infection control program. After a fulfilling nursing career, she entered seminary to become an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church. She was the rector at St Stephen’s Church in Tottenville, Staten Island, NY. She later became the rector at St John’s Church in Kingston NY. After retirement, she became the Pastoral Associate at the Church of the Advent in Cape May NJ and a Trustee at St. Peter’s by the Sea in Cape May Point NJ. Over the past 10 years, she has developed loving relationships with all of the Episcopal parishes in South Jersey. Prior to attending seminary, she attended St. Stephen’s Church in Pearl River NY, which supported in her decision to follow her calling into the ministry. She will be remembered dearly as a very vibrant special person, who was full of life and always had a smile. Her love of life, family and community had a positive impact on more people than she would ever been able to imagine. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her beloved canine companions. She is predeceased by her daughter, Kathleen Marie Jackson and son, Michael Charles Jackson; one sister, Gladys Brigham and two brothers, Edward and Samuel Copin. Mother Joan will be dearly missed by her loving family which includes her two children, Rhonda Jackson and Raymond Jackson; grandson, Kyle (and Shani) Jackson; daughter-in- Kathleen Jackson, sister, Virginia (and Anthony) Chamberlain; brother, Raymond (and Iris) Copin; also numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family. Burial Office and Requiem Eucharist will be offered on Sunday (Sept. 8th) at 4PM in the Episcopal Church of the Advent, 686 Washington St., Cape May where friends will be received from 3PM to 4PM. Entombment will follow in the Episcopal Church of the Advent Columbarium.
