HUTCHINSON, ROBERT J. (“Knute

HUTCHINSON, ROBERT J. (“Knute”), age 80, born & raised 615 S. 27th Philadelphia (The Pocket), PA. Knute joined the Air Force in September 1955 & served as an Air Policeman in Tulle, Greenland & honorably discharged 4 years later. He joined the Philadelphia Police Dept. in 1960 and served in the 12th District, 16th District before being selected to the Elite Highway Patrol where he served for 4 years. He was then transferred to the prestigious Stake-out Unit & served until his retirement. During his tenure in the Stake-out Unit, he conducted back-up duties in an operation infamously known as the “Granny Squad”. He retired in 1985 with 25 years of service. He married Alice “Patty” McGlade in June of 1962 at Most Blessed Sacrament Parish by Monsignor Dailey. Knute retired in 1985 basically to provide care for his wife Patty. She was bedridden and passed away in 1995. Knute relocated from 63rd & Greenway in Southwest Philadelphia 6 years ago to Conifer Apartments in North Cape May. Knute passed away peacefully inside his home after returning from his birthday party at the Disabled American Veterans Post on May 21, 2017. He was a member of the “Chapel of the Four Chaplains”, the Emerald Society, Knights of Columbus, Disabled American Veterans, Catholic War Veterans, American Legion, Moose & Elks. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 1 2017 at the Parish of St John Neumann, St John of God RC Church, 680 Townbank Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00. Donations in his memory may be made to the DAV Post #44, 1010 Bayshore Road, Del Haven, NJ, 08251. Knute’s cremains will be interred with his wife at a later date at Saints.
