HUTCHINSON, DONALD CHARLES

HUTCHINSON, DONALD CHARLES, of Stone Harbor, New Jersey and Juno Beach, Florida died June 1, 2011 at his home in Stone Harbor after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 76. Don was born September 26, 1934, in Camden, New Jersey to Charles and Ruth Hutchinson. Don graduated from Merchantville High School where he starred in football and baseball. He attended Western Maryland College, on a football scholarship, and Rutgers University. It was at Western Maryland College that he first met Joan, his beloved wife, of 57 years. Don was employed at New Jersey Bell Telephone for 20 years. It was during this time, after a promotion to the Branch Manager of the Wildwood Business Office, that Don moved his family from Pennsauken, NJ to Stone Harbor in 1963. After taking an early retirement from New Jersey Bell Telephone in 1979, Don was named Vice President of First National Bank of Stone Harbor. His tenure in various banking positions lasted over 10 years. Don finally retired in 2000 after 15 years of service as an administrator for the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority. Don served as a volunteer coach and referee in the Stone Harbor Fire Lions football program. He was an original member and Chairman of the Stone Harbor Planning Board, served on the Board of Directors of the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, and a past member of the Wildwood Rotary Club. He was an active member of the Stone Harbor Yacht Club and attended the Lutheran Church of Stone Harbor. Don loved the beaches of both Stone Harbor and Juno Beach where he enjoyed spending his days reading, swimming, biking and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Don enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Stone Harbor Golf Club and the EPGASH men’s group. Don is survived by his wife, Joan, sister Joan McDermott (Peter), one daughter, Mary Priggemeier (David) of Cape May Court House, three sons, Robert (Robin) of Yardley, PA, John (Diane) of Crofton, Maryland, and Tom (Lynn) of Woolford, Maryland, and eight grandchildren, Sarah, Lauren, Andrew, Rachel, Ryan, Brian, Brendan, and Helen. The family wished to express their thanks and gratitude to their friends for their concern, prayers and support during his illness. Services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Our Saviour Lutheran Church of Stone Harbor, 93rd and Third Avenue, Stone Harbor, New Jersey at 11:00 AM where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, South Jersey Region, 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 or the Love of Linda Cancer Fund at PO Box 1053, Wildwood, NJ 08260.
