HEWETT, SYLVIA (Kajander) passed away on Sunday December 20, 2015. Born in Wildwood in 1920, Sylvia was a lifelong resident of Cape May County, most recently residing at Victoria Manor in North Cape May. A loving wife and mother, Sylvia was known as an exceptional cook who enjoyed preparing meals and hosting her family and friends for many Holiday celebrations over the years. As a young woman Sylvia received a degree from Temple University Business School and for 50 years worked as a Bookkeeper for her family’s business, John W. Hewett Plumbing and Heating in Rio Grande, N.J. Sylvia’s faith was as important to her as her family, and while she lived in Rio Grande, she regularly attended the First Baptist Church of Cape May Court House. She is survived by her brother, Richard Kajander; her sons, John W. Hewett, Jr. (Ava) and William A. Hewett (Sharon); her Grandson, John A. Hewett; her Great Granddaughter, Jacqueline Hewett. Also survived by her loving nieces, Nancy Minarik (Richard), Francine Bagli (James), and Judy Van Zant; and Great Nephews Christopher, Clinton, and Mark Van Zant, Richard and Ryan Minarik, and Michael and William Bagli. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Fannie Kajander, her husband John W. Hewett, her sister Lillian Van Zant, her brother John Kajander, and her nephew Clinton Van Zant. A graveside service will be conducted at the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery at 129 Crest Haven Road, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210, on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. Memorial donations can be made in Sylvia’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Cape May Court House, 101 South Main Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
