HAND, KENNETH HITCHNER, Jr., (77) of Wildwood Crest, NJ passed away peacefully Thursday morning, June 8, 2017. A devoted, loving husband of Margaret (Peggy) née Blackburn of nearly 50 years and a role model and patriarch to his five children, he was an accomplished commercial fisherman, captain and business owner of several vessels including his beloved F/V Instigator. Nicknamed the “Instigator” by those close to him as a fun-loving, but pragmatic soul, he was known by many in his community to be a humble, caring man.
He had been a father-figure to many men of the fishing community who had looked to him for guidance, wisdom, and straight-forward advice while instilling the seemingly old-fashioned values of honesty, hard work, and making the most of an opportunity. He will be sorely missed, but forever remembered by many for the great man he was.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy née Blackburn;
Three sons: Shannon, Kenny, and Zachary;
Two daughters: Laurie Hand-Romo, and Deborah;
Four Grandchildren and one great-grandchild;
Two Sisters: Sandra Myland, Joy Diantonio;
His best buds: Tim, Mike, George, and Jimmy;
And his two favorite canine companions, Sadie and Molly.
Funeral Services are to be held on Monday June 12 at 11 AM at the Ingersoll-Greenwood Funeral Home, 1201 Central Avenue, North Wildwood, NJ 08260. Friends may call from 10 AM at the Funeral Home; interment will be held at the Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, Cape May, NJ. In lieu of flowers, it is simply suggested to pay-it-forward.
