HALBRUNER (nee Phillips), MARTHA

HALBRUNER (nee Phillips), MARTHA J. (“Marty” ) 87, of Cape May passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 14, 2017. Born in Wildwood and a graduate of Cape May High School, Marty has been a lifelong resident of the Cape May area. She was formerly employed by the Lower Twp. Tax Assessor’s Office and later worked as a secretary at Maud Abrams Elementary School (1979-1993). Marty was a longtime, devoted and active member of the Cape May United Methodist Church where she was in the choir and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of the “West Cape May Girls.” Marty was raised on the Phillips’ family dairy farm in North Cape May, where she developed a lifelong love of animals and the outdoors. Music and singing brought her great joy, and she was a proud and devoted member of her church’s choir. She was an excellent baker, and her cakes, pies, and cookies were welcomed by many in the local community over the years. She and Bucky enjoyed their road trips together to visit relatives in Delaware and Maryland, or to vacation in Chincoteague Island, VA or Branson, MO. Marty had a great sense of humor and could make anyone smile. She was quick-witted and possessed an encyclopedic memory. She will be remembered by family and friends as a loving and generous soul who often put others’ needs ahead of her own. She enjoyed a marriage of 56 years to the late Hiram “Bucky” Halbruner (2006) and is also predeceased by her son, David Halbruner (2010); her parents, Edward and Louise Phillips, and her brothers, Ronald, Robert, and Albert. Marty is dearly missed by her loving family which includes her grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Halbruner and Alexandra and Eric Barikian; her niece, Margaret (Jeff) Hill; her daughter-in-law, Stacey Halbruner; her great-granddaughter, Harper Halbruner; as well as many longtime and very dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (June 21st) at 11am in the Cape May United Methodist Church, 635 Washington St., Cape May where friends will be received from 10am until 10:50am. Interment will follow in the Cold Spring Cem., Lower Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to: Animal Outreach, 600 Park Blvd. #3, West Cape May, NJ 08204.
