HALBRUNER, JOSEPH B. (“Joe

HALBRUNER, JOSEPH B. (“Joe”), 70 of North Cape May, NJ passed away on May 28, 2017 with loved ones at his side. Formerly he resided in Absecon, NJ most of his life. Joe was employed as a boat captain of commercial fishing vessels most of his career. In latter years he worked at Gifford Marina in Margate, NJ and enjoyed racing powerboats. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed golfing.

Joe served in the Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1969. He was decorated with the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon.

He was preceded in death by his father Bertram S. Halbruner, Sr. He is survived by his beloved son, Dennis Wilson; two granddaughters which he cherished, Audrey Wilson and Ryley Wilson; his mother Dorothy Keith; Brenda Douglass (sister) and husband Glenn; Bertram “Bert” Halbruner, Jr. (brother) and wife Sandie; David (brother) and wife Stella; Edward Halbruner (brother); Donna Webb (sister), Diane Shinn (sister), Robert Keith (brother), and Carol Jaje (sister, deceased); and his lifelong friend, William (Bill) Gifford.

Joe had a passion for the sea. In honor of his love for the sea, Joe’s memorial service with military honors will be held at the Cape May Fisherman’s Memorial overlooking the Cape May Harbor (located at the end of Missouri Avenue in Cape May) on Saturday, June 10, 2017 beginning at 11am.
