HAARDE, FREDERICK W. (Fred), 95,

HAARDE, FREDERICK W. (Fred), 95, of Willow Valley Lakes Manor, Willow Street, PA died Sunday, April 25, 2010. Born in Dumont, NJ, he was the son of Frederick John and Cecile Emrich Haarde. He was the husband of Louella Bell Haarde. They observed their 68th wedding anniversary on June 14th 2009. He graduated from Tredyffrin-Easttown High School in Berwyn, PA and obtained a degree in Chemical Engineering from Penn State University in 1937 and remained an avid Penn State football fan for the rest of his life. After marriage, he and his wife lived in Lock Haven, PA where he was employed for about 20 years in the manufacture of dyestuffs. In 1957 they moved to Malvern, PA and he began employment with Wyeth Pharmaceutical Laboratories, in West Chester, PA where he worked until his retirement in 1980. In 1983 they moved to Cape May Court House, NJ and in 1988 relocated to Willow Valley Lakes Manor, a lifecare retirement community near Lancaster, PA He was a lifelong active Episcopalian and sang in the choirs at Good Samaritan Church in Paoli, PA, St. Pauls Church in Lock Haven, PA and St. Mary’s Church in Stone Harbor, NJ. He also sang with several choral groups including the Fortnightly Club of Philadelphia, the Willow Valley No Name Band and he was a charter member of the Cape Harmonaires Barbershop Singers in Cape May, NJ. He enjoyed sports and engaged in track, tennis, basketball and golf. He served on the Election Board and the Planning Commission while living in Willistown Township in Chester County. At the time of his death he was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Lancaster, PA. Preceding him in death were a son, James Frederick and a brother, Harold A of St. Pete’s Beach, FL. Surviving besides his wife are a brother, Richard E. of Sebastian, FL; two daughters, Jeanne, wife of Curtis Cooke of Malvern, PA, and Linda, wife of Walter Hendee, deceased, of Stone Harbor, NJ; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A memorial service held on Saturday, May 8th, 11am in the chapel of The Good Samaritan Church in Paoli, PA. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his name to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation, PO Box 515, Northampton, MA 01061 or the Alzheimers Association, Greater PA Chapter, 3544 N Progress Ave, Ste 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110. A reception at the church follows internment.
