GRIMES, BEATRICE E., 91, of Villas passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 5, 2014. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, she moved to Cape May following WWII and lived there for many years before moving to the Villas. She enjoyed many trips to England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland and developed lifelong friendships with several people she met there. She always welcomed back a houseful of children and grandchildren to the Cape May house and cooked endless meals for all. She loved playing with her grandchildren. She went fishing every Sunday on the Fiesta party boat captained by her husband, Max. A voracious reader from early childhood, she read the classics and was a familiar face at local libraries. She developed an interest in government and politics and served as a committee woman for the Democratic Party. She also worked at the polls on election day. She didnt hesitate to express her opinions through letter writing to newspapers and attending town meetings. A lifelong fan of the Phillies baseball team, she saw her first game at the old Shibe Park in Philadelphia. In later years she traveled to Clearwater, Florida during spring training to watch the Phillies play. Her dry sense of humor was displayed often and her laughter infectious. She was predeceased by her husband, Max J. Grimes in 2005. Also predeceased by grandson, Alex Macaulay. Beatrice will be dearly missed by her loving family which includes her three children, Lois Grimes (Paul Thompson), Michael Grimes (Carolyn Adams) and Kate (Fred) Shields; six grandchildren, Ronnie, Allisdair, Michael, Vicki, Laura and Jim and six great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Hunter Lee, Maxie, J.D., Nicholas and Samantha.
