GIBBS, DOROTHY E.

GIBBS, DOROTHY E., of Avalon, NJ passed away peacefully on February 28, 2014, after a long and active life. She was 96 years old. Dorothy graduated from Frankford High School in Philadelphia in 1936 and went to work for the Henry Disston & Sons in the Tacony neighborhood of the city. A few years later she met and married Joseph T. Gibbs. They had four children. After raising her children, Dorothy returned to work at Disston which had earlier been acquired by the H.K. Porter Company. In the 1970s, she and Joseph moved to Avalon, NJ. Dorothy volunteered for 25 years at Burdette Tomlin Hospital and Cape Regional Medical Center in Cape May Court House, where she was a member of the MASH. She served on the Board of Directors of the Hospital Auxiliary and belonged to the Avalon Seniors Association and the Avalon Seniors Bowling Club. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband and is survived by her four children, Joseph T., Jr., Dennis, Terence and Constance, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the ALS Association. Church (Maris Stella Main Church), 5012 Dune Drive, Avalon, NJ 08202. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 AM, after which Dorothy will be taken to Sunset Memorial Park, 333 County Line Road, Feasterville, PA 19053, to be laid to rest next to her husband.
