GAYNOR, MARGARET L

GAYNOR, MARGARET L (Nee Shannon), 88, of Wildwood, NJ, formerly of Villas, NJ and Fort Myers, Fl. passed away on Jan. 6, 2014 at Victoria Manor , North Cape May, NJ with her only daughter, Margaret Anne, holding her hand supported by the wonderful nurses and care givers.. She was born on March 8, 1925 to Bernard and Lillian ( Hunter) Shannon in Philadelphia, PA. Growing up she was known as Peggy Shannon where she performed as a nightclub singer at local establishments in the Philadelphia area. Later known as Marge, she married Raymond J. Gaynor on February 2, 1946 after his return home from active duty in WWII. They shared 541/2 years of marriage until his death in 2000. Together they raised their family in St. Clement Parish in Southwest Philadelphia and summers in Villas, NJ. Active in the Villas Fishing Club, she performed in many variety shows produced by the Fishing Club Ladies. An avid seamstress, she made many bride and bridal party gowns for family and friends as well as much of her own wardrobe and show costumes. After retirement, she and her husband became ” snowbirds” where they spent winters in Fort Myers, FL, eventually becoming permanent Floridians in 1995. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her three brothers, Horace, Babs, Ike and beloved Aunt Mag and Uncle Horace Shannon. She is survived by her three children, Raymond, Margaret Anne ( Jerry) Clark, and Thomas. Her cherished eight grandchildren include Steven Clark, David ( Susan) Clark, Richard Gaynor ( Natalie McCoy), Lori ( Steve) Weaver, Tommy ( Shaina) Gaynor, Justin Gaynor, Eric ( Lauren) Gaynor and Danny Gaynor. Her four great grandchildren are Ryan Weaver, Joey, Bryann & Matthew Gaynor. After a thirteen year separation, she will be reunited with her loving husband when she is laid to rest beside him at the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery, Cape May Court House, NJ following graveside services in the cemetery chapel on Friday Jan. 10th at 11am. The family is thankful for the care she received at Victoria Manor for the last 18 months.
