GALANTE, EDWARD W.

GALANTE, EDWARD W., age 84, of Malvern, Pennsylvania, succumbed to lung cancer at his home surrounded by family on November 4, 2016.Ed is survived by his high school sweetheart & beloved wife of 64 years, Patricia W. (Webster); his daughter Kim and her husband Bill Yerkes; son Edward JR and his wife Cathy Galante; daughter Leigh and her husband Andy Gustine. He also leaves his nine grandchildren: Caitlin (Skaff) Yerkes and Will, Chris and Andrew Yerkes; Brooke (Galante) Ennis, Adam Galante, and Griffin Galante; Lily and Ella Gustine; and three great-grandchildren: Elloise and Sloane Ennis, and Charlene Yerkes. He is predeceased by his brothers Albert and Raymond, his grandson-in-law Brad Ennis and his great granddaughter Evangeline Skaff.Born and raised in Germantown, he moved with his growing family to East Whiteland Township in 1958. He worked for the Philadelphia Bulletin newspaper for 25 years, and served as Justice of the Peace, Tax Collector, Director of Public Works and Supervisor of East Whiteland township. A proud patriot, he served in the naval submarine reserves for 8 years as a quartermaster on the USS Becuna. His passion for his Philadelphia Flyers, Phillies and Eagles, and his Penn State Nittany Lions could be heard as he watched them.His second home was the Jersey shore, a love affair that began with his childhood summers at the Calvary Seaside House in Stone Harbor. He bought his own summer castle in Avalon in 1976, where he spent summers with his family, fishing, boating and soaking up the sun. He was a familiar landmark sitting on the front porch reading Tom Clancy novels. Since 2001, he has enjoyed the crowds at his Sundae Best Ice Cream shop in Avalon, where you could find him entertaining everyone with his stories and nuggets of wisdom.Ed LOVED life and lived it to the fullest. Everyone that met him felt his vitality and his positive spirit. And he touched many lives with his kindness and generosity. He was the best husband. He was the best dad. How lucky we all were to know him.Following a private service for the immediate family, all are invited to a Celebration of Eds Life at an open house at the Covenant Presbyterian Church from 2 to 4 on Friday Dec. 2, 2016.
