FREEMAN, JAMES E. III

FREEMAN, JAMES E. III, 86, of North Wildwood, Deerfield Beach, Florida, and Washington, DC passed away on Sunday February 9, 2014 at Crest Haven Nursing Home. Born to James and Maizie (Graves) Freeman in Washington DC., Jim was known as “Reds” and “J and attended St. John’s Military High School, Anacostia High School, and Georgetown University. Jim worked 29 years for Potomac Electric Power Company. He was also involved, years before it became popular, in the “flipping” of real estate properties in the Capitol Hill area in Washington DC. He was the consummate, professional house painter. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy, in which he proudly served from 1946-1953. Jim was involved as a volunteer in many youth athletic activities, and was a high school football referee for many years. During this time he met and married the former Lorraine M. Pasker, of Frackville, Pa. and they were happily married for 61 years. His passions included physical fitness with weightlifting. He had a gym constructed in the basement of his house, as well as a regular weightlifting club in which close friends, members of the military, and police were invited. The police members of this club would provide escort to Lorraine on all five maternity visits to the hospital. Some of his passions included big band music and being an accomplished drummer, but his greatest passion was enjoying the beach, which he instilled in his family on many vacations to Ocean City, MD, North Wildwood, NJ, and Deerfield Beach, Fla. Surviving are his wife Lorraine; children: James (Cheryl) Freeman of CMCH, NJ, MaryAnne (Robert) Salasin of Stone Harbor, NJ, John Freeman of Camden NJ, Joseph (Kendall) Freeman of Langhorne, PA, and Therese (Keith) Humphrey of Derby, Kansas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine step grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Margaret Villela. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Paul Church, 99th and 3rd Ave., Stone Harbor, NJ, on Monday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. with a calling hour beginning at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to the Seraphic Mass Association, Capuchin Mission Office, 3600 Butler St. Pittsburgh, Pa, 15201,or the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N.
