EPPLE, AUGUSTUS GUS, 91, of Cape May Court House, NJ, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Paterson, NJ to the late August and Hattie Schilde Epple and was a member of St. Marys Episcopal Church in Stone Harbor.Gus served in the U.S. Army on the European Front during World War II, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, He was President of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge South Jersey Chapter and spoke about World War II and the Battle of the Bulge at area schools.Gus worked as a Production Manager for Conover Mast Publications in New York City. In his free time he enjoyed gardening and working on the daylily farm that he started with his beloved wife, Ellen, after moving from their home in Belle Mead to retire in Cape May County in 1994. Gus loved being outdoors, especially tending to his daylily and tomato plants and bird watching. His greatest enjoyment came from the time spent with family and friends. He had a deep love of music and often played his harmonica at gatherings.Gus is survived by his wife of 63+ years, Ellen; his daughters, Robin Dunham (David), Claudia Epple, Jennifer Myers (Stephen), and Bernadette Sissick (Robert); his grandchildren, David Dunham (Rebecca Kunkel), Andrea Dunham (Evan Andersen), Benjamin Dunham, Nicholas Dunham, Ellen Jacobus, Christopher Myers, Chloe Myers, Katelyn Sissick, and Robert Sissick; and his nephews, George Epple and William Epple. He was preceded in death by his son, David Epple.Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Marys Episcopal Church, 95thStreet and Third Avenue, Stone Harbor, NJ.
