DOUGHERTY (nee Morris), JOY

DOUGHERTY (nee Morris), JOY, 82, of Cape May passed away quietly at her home on Friday evening, July 21, 2017. Born in Mount Holly on September 29, 1934 to the late Robert Brinton Morris and the late Marie Haley Morris, Joy is forever loved and remembered by her family for being a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother. Committed to education, she graduated from Pitman High School; attended Penn State University and later enjoyed being a substitute teacher at Lower Cape May Regional High School and served on the Cape May Elementary School Board for many years. Along with her husband, Barney, she was a real estate broker and former co-owner of the Sol Needles Agency in Cape May where she enjoyed being a part of the community and fostered many treasured relationships. Joy was a talented artist, creating many water color paintings and stained glass works. She was an avid reader; loved to travel and also enjoyed working in her many gardens until the very last moments of her life. She was a member of the Avalon and Cape May National Golf Clubs. She was smart, stunning, stoic and stubborn to the end. Joy is dearly missed by her loving family which includes her husband and best friend of 63 years Wister “Barney” Dougherty; four daughters, Lori Jepson (Rob), Lynn Gleeson (Austin), Lisa Muller and Kim Tomlin (Phil); affectionately known as “Bop-Bop” to her 7 grandchildren, Christopher, Lauren, Katie, Bobby, Haley, Michael and Kasey, as well as her 4 great grandchildren, Alannah, Connor, Taylor and Zander; 2 siblings, Robert Morris (Elizabeth) and Sandra Gay Vandegrift.
