DOHERTY, THOMAS M. JR. “TOMMY DOC”, 78, of Cape May passed away on Sunday, August 25, 2013. Born in Philadelphia, Tommy Doc has been a resident of the Cape May area since 1965. He attended Roman Catholic High School, Phila. A man of honor, he proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Tommy Doc joined the Seafarer’s International Union in 1961 as an ordinary seaman and retired as a Captain for Turecamo Brothers Tug Boats out of Philadelphia Harbor in 1994. He was a member of the VFW Peterson-Little Post 386, Cape May; the Knights of Columbus, Erma Council and Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Cape May. He was predeceased by his wife, Antoinette in 1994. Tommy Doc will be dearly missed by his loving family which includes his four children, Lorraine (and Brian) Matthews, Janet (and John) Albert, Tom (and Jackie) Doherty III and Dan (and Bobbi) Doherty; sister, Mary (and Ed) Collins; brother, James (and Anne) Doherty; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (Aug. 30th) at 12noon in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 525 Washington St., Cape May. There will be a viewing on Friday morning from 10AM -11:30AM in the Spilker Funeral Home, 815 Washington St., Cape May. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cem., Lower Twp.
