DOHERTY, CAROLINE MARY, 80, of Wildwood, NJ passed away peacefully at home, with friends at her side, on Friday, September 14, 2012. She was born in Phila. Pa. and raised in Wallingford, Pa. where her childhood home is now the Wallingford Art Center. She attended the Friends School and Harkum College. However, for over 30 years she lovingly called Wildwood her home. Caroline was predeceased in death by her beloved son Bobby Hunter Doherty, and her parents Caroline Elsie Hunter and Robert Hunter. Caroline is best remembered by her great generosity to her community. Through the Bob Doherty Scholarship Foundation she has afforded many local graduates of both Wildwood Catholic High School and Wildwood High School the opportunity to further their studies at colleges and universities. She also made it possible for local grade school graduates to attend Wildwood Catholic High School as well. Caroline was also an advocate for her beloved animals. She not only contributed financially to many shelters but also gave of her time to make sure they were cared for lovingly. Her contributions to others are way too numerous to mention here. Caroline loved to travel the world and did so for most of her life. She was a member of the Wildwood Civic Club and the Soroptimist International of Cape May County as well as the Red Hat Society. She loved people and loved entertaining, always making sure everyone’s needs were met and that they were enjoying themselves. Most importantly Caroline was loving and kind to her closest friends who will miss her dearly. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am Saturday, September 22nd at Notre Dame de la Mer Parish, at the Church of the Assumption, 7100 Seaview Ave. where friends may call there from 8:00 to 10:00am. Interment will be in the Cold Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, Lower Township, NJ. Memorials in her name may be made to the Cape May Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, 110 Shelter Rd., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210 or to the Animal Welfare Society of Cape May County, 40 Rt. 47 South, Dias Creek, NJ 08210.
