DAVIS, GEORGE W. SR, age 84, a long-time resident of Whitesboro, NJ, died on Sunday, August 11, 2013. He was born in Augusta, GA to the late Willie and Nellie Brantley Davis. He later moved to Whitesboro, NJ in 1947 and received his education at the Whitesboro Public School system. George was a member of St. Stephen’s A.M.E. Church where he served on the Trustee Board and sang on the St. Stephen’s Choir. Before he became the owner of G.W. Davis Auto Body and Paint Shop (over 40 years), he had worked for the Endicott Lumber Company, Mullen’s Auto Company; the Esso Gas Station in Wildwood and H.B. Christman Auto Parts. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing, hunting, watching western movies, his dogs which he used for hunting, hanging out with his grandchildren, but mostly for companionship. He is survived by his daughter, Louella A. Gray and her husband, Robert J., with whom he lived for the past four years; three sisters: Willie Mae Haliburton (William), Mattie Matthews and Julia Callaway (Rufus); two sisters-in-law, Vera Smith and Carolyn Patton; one brother-in-law, Albert Mabry; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie F. Davis; his sons: Curtis M. and George W. Jr.; a grandson, Curtis Davis and his sister, Frances L. Clark. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 11:00 am at The Christ Gospel Church, 2209 Route 9 South, Whitesboro, NJ where friends may visit one hour prior to the service.
