CUNNINGHAM, FRANCIS C. “MICKEY”, 84, of Avalon, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013. He was born on February 16, 1929 in Philadelphia to the late James and Katherine (McCall) Cunningham. A 1960 graduate of St. Joseph University, he was a very active member of the Alumni Association and the Saint Ignatius of Loyola group. St. Joseph University was near and dear to his heart.
Mickey was a Navy Veteran of World War II and was a member of the American Legion Post 331 Stone Harbor and of St. Brendan the Navigator Parish Maris Stella Church. He was an auditor for the U.S. Government and served in the U.S. Postal Service. He enjoyed playing golf. He served on the Board and as President of Wildwood Golf and Country Club and was very active at the Avalon Golf Club.
Mickey was very devoted to his surviving wife of 63 years, Geraldine M. Cunningham. He is also survived by his sister in law, Margaret B. Cunningham; his brother in law, Hugh “Bud” McCole; and several nieces and nephews including his Goddaughter Catharine I. Cunningham. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James W. Cunningham and John J. Cunningham and wife Helen; and his sisters, Kathleen Johnston and husband Kenneth and Dorothy McCole; and his niece Margaret Ann Cunningham.
Funeral Mass will be said on Friday, November 8, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Brendan the Navigator Parish Maris Stella Church, 50th Street and Dune Drive, Avalon, where visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Entombment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Cold Spring.
