CORCORAN, JOAN MARGARET (nee HENRY), 80, of Cape May Court House, passed away August 9, 2013. She was born in Billingsport, NJ, on April 24, 1933, to the late Louis and Madeleine Henry, and grew up in Paulsboro, NJ. Joan graduated from Paulsboro High School in 1950. While there, she was a keen field hockey player and enjoyed her time as a regular on American Bandstand. She went on to become an air traffic controller in the U.S. Navy before marrying. She was a dedicated homemaker, caring for her eight children, during which time she shared her talents and hobbies as a Girl Scout Leader and an avid seamstress. Later in life, she became a successful Cape May County Realtor and hotel manager. She continued to demonstrate her dedication to others by becoming a Literacy Volunteer and sewing costumes for local school plays. She was also known as a worthy adversary in word games and enjoyed playing them with her family and friends. Joan recently shared with friends that her greatest gift in life was her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband Fred and her children Jim Corcoran (Sherry), Dan Corcoran (Darlene), and Kate Corcoran (Ed). She is survived by her sister Madeleine Tighe (Rudy), her brother Sam Henry (Susan), her children Fred Corcoran (Linda), Tim Corcoran (Chrissy), Susan Cawley (Ted), Michael Corcoran (Theresa), and John Corcoran (Shannon), as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, August 13, at Our Lady of the Angels in Cape May Court House from 9:30-11:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Swedesboro, NJ, to be held at a later date.
