CHAMPION, JOHN S., 86, of South Dennis died on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the age of 86. He was born in Goshen to the late John and Mary (Robinson) Champion. He was a former Dennis Township mayor and committeeman and worked for many years at Siegel Brothers Market in Woodbine and later for the New Jersey Lottery. In addition, he was a lifetime member of Dennis Volunteer Fire Company and Cape May County Fire Police. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in South Dennis for over 60 years as well as the president of the Dennis Township Senior Citizens Club. He was predeceased by his daughter Elaine R. Champion and his wife of 48 years Elaine E. Champion. John is survived by his children, John H. (Joanne) of Dennisville, Martha Sue Cella (Don) of North Cape May, Vernon D. (Jennifer) of Dennisville, and Dorothy L. Smaniotto (Keith) of Palermo. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Anna Oney (Chris) of Goshen, Stephanie, Frances, and James John Cella of North Cape May, Alex Smaniotto of Palermo and his step granddaughter Shelby Montgomery of Florida. Viewings will be held on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House and on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 834 Route 47, South Dennis. The service will begin on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery in South Dennis.
