CARSON, JOHN ALBERT, 82, passed peacefully at his home in North Wildwood, NJ early in the morning of February 19, 2014. Beloved of Patricia Ann Carson, his wife of 42 years, John is survived by his children John, James, Mary Katherine, Nancy Leigh, Rebecca and Gary Lee. John had eleven grandchildren: Amanda, Elizabeth, Ryan, Erin, Robert, Sean (Carson), Daniel, Regina, Lauren, Sarah, and Sean (Kilfoy). John was blessed with 6 great-grandchildren: Nathaniel, Douglass, Abigail, Isabel, Jameson and Easton. John was pre-deceased by his son Robert Emmett in 2010. Born in Philadelphia on March 11, 1931, John was the son of James Aldrich and Katherine (McElrevey) Carson. John spent every summer as a child at the shore and never “got the sand out of his shoes”. John and Pat lives alternated between residences in North Wildwood and Pocono Lake, PA. When not working, and after retirement, his favorite activities at the shore was walking the beach with his metal detector, often gathering over $1000 in a season. A notable phase of John’s career was Facilities manager at the old Hunt’s Pier in Wildwood, NJ. In addition to overseeing the onslaught of maintenance tasks for an operation sitting at the edge of the ocean was the surprisingly complex operation of piping the sounds of tropical animals, spooky mineshaft residents and music to all the rides on the pier; all from a single control room. As impressive as this was the principal benefit for his children and grandchildren was the ability to ride the rides for free. John’s friends and family held a memorial service this past Saturday, February 22nd at North Wildwood United Methodist Church. Pat wishes to extend her sincere appreciation to all her beautiful friends, neighbors and family for joining her to celebrate John’s life. An additional memorial service will be held Saturday, March 1st, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Pocono Lake United Methodist Church located at 1188 Route 940, Pocono Lake, PA 18347.
