CARROLL, RUTH (WILLIAMS): On August 4th, Ruth (Williams) Carroll (born 1-21-31) passed at home and was reunited with her husband (of 62 years) James A. Carroll, and dozens of their four-legged companions just beyond the pearly gates. A daughter of a coal miner and a homemaker, and 1 of 5 children, she was a resourceful and tenacious survivor of The Great Depression. Ruth was born at home, in Pennington Gap, Virginia and spent most of her childhood in St. Charles, Virginia. After briefly living in Ohio, where she met the man of her dreams, Ruth spent 50+ years as a resident of Green Creek in a home that she and her husband built with their own hands. Ruth happily filled bellies with her delicious baked goods, and took great pride in the tasty treats she sold at the Marlboro Farm Market throughout the 1990’s and early 2000’s. Ruth leaves behind her daughter, Janice Carroll Hammond (Green Creek), Granddaughter, Jinnelle (Glen) Aronovitch (Woodbury), Granddaughter Sophie, Jackie Terry (Green Creek), her remaining surviving sibling, and nephew, Bruce Terry (Green Creek). “Granny” was a gifted storyteller and seldom pulled punches when informing others of the right way to do things! Ruth was a lover of all animals and would never allow a living thing go hungry. Her unwavering generosity was not exclusive to animals, as she would never hesitate to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Ruth, will be remembered fondly, and missed whole-heartedly.
