CARDILE, SANTO L., “Seagull Sam”, 94, of Wildwood Crest, NJ, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Atlantic City to the late Santo A. and Domenica Tatero Cardile, he moved here 70 years ago from Linwood. Sam served as a U.S. Navy Seabee during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theater and landed on Iwo Jima. He was scheduled to be in the Third Wave of the invasion of Japan until the U.S. dropped the atomic bomb. The first five waves were planned as not to return. Sam was the owner of the Aspen Fish Company on Wildwood Blvd. in Middle Township. He was a member of Notre Dame de le Mer Parish Assumption Church. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Rio Grande Chamber of Commerce. Sam is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris Aspenberg Cardile; his son, Leroy S. Cardile (Barbara); his daughter, Susan M. Hyatt (Guy); his grandchildren, William R. Gallagher and Sara A. Cardile; his great grandson, William O. Gallagher; his brother, Carl Cardile (Marie); and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph L. Cardile, John Cardile, and Anthony E. Cardile; and his sisters, Mary C. Ellingsworth and Concetta “Jennie” Cardile. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on April 8, 2016 at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ. Memorial donations may be made to the Love of Linda Cancer Fund, P.O.
