BROWN, LORENE E., 94 of Cape May Court House, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2015. Lorene was born to a hard working farm family in Arkansas and raised in Texas. She married Claude Brown, 1st Lt. U.S. Army Air Corps at the onset of WWII. Shortly after the war ended, the couple moved to Paris, France where Claude operated a travel agency serving U.S. occupying military forces stationed in Europe. Lorene raised two of her three children in Paris before moving back to the U.S. and resettling in Cape May. She was employed for many years as a cafeteria worker at Lower Cape May Regional High School. After retirement her and her husband operated a small farm and produce stand in Erma that was especially popular for Lorene’s beautiful arrangements of cut flowers. She enjoyed making hand sewn quilts, rescuing and caring for abandoned cats, gardening and cooking huge and delicious Sunday dinners for her family. Her “down home” charm, eagerness to help those in need and her Texas accent peppered with French expressions, ingratiated her to everyone she met. She lived her final years at the Brookdale Assisted Living Center (formerly Loyalton) where the wonderful, professional staff gave her the best of care 24 hrs a day. Lorene was predeceased by her husband Claude and son John. She is survived by her two daughters Claudia McGoldrick (Steve Murray) of Pierces Point N.J., and Loren Harlan (Bruce) of Ft. Lauderdale FL. Services and burial will be private. Memorial donations can be made to Animal Outreach of Cape May County, 600 Park Blvd., West Cape May NJ 08204.
