BROWN, HARRY COOPER

BROWN, HARRY COOPER, 90 years of age, of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away on Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Born on Sept. 17, 1922, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of Harry Coryell and Ida (Cooper) Brown. Upon his retirement, he shared his residence between Ocean City, NJ and Port Charlotte, FL., before making Port Charlotte his permanent residence. Mr. Brown was a Veteran of World War II serving as a Medic with the United States Navy receiving his honorable discharge in 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Morvay-Miley Post 524 in Ocean City, NJ, and Ocean City Lodge #171 F. & A. M. He was Chief School Administrator for Dennis Township School District starting in 1968 and retiring in 1985. Prior to that, he served as principal in the Pleasantville School District. As Dennis Township Principal, he was awarded the Educational Pacesetter Award as project director of the “Interning for Learning” program in the Cape May County schools, by the National Advisory Council, of Title III of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Mr. Brown was a member of the NJ Principals and Supervisors Association, a member of N.E.A , and was an Alumni of West Chester University and Temple University. Surviving are his beloved wife of 69 years, Dorothy Brown (nee Nelson) of Port Charlotte, FL, three children, Harry Brown and his wife Kathleen of Seaville, NJ, Stephen Brown and his wife Dolores of Port Charlotte, FL, Deborah MacIntyre and her husband Shawn of Caledonia, New York; grandchildren, Kristie Brown Chisholm and her husband Shane of Seaville, NJ, H. Kyle Brown and his wife, Monica of Seaville, NJ, Kenneth (KJ) Otterman and his wife Rebecca of Hayden, CO, Forrest Otterman and Samantha of Hayden, CO, Steven Wilbraham of Ft. Myers, FL, Nathan Brown, USAF, of Port Charlotte, FL; great- grandchildren, Kamryn Chisholm, McKenna Chisholm, Logan Otterman, Josie Otterman and Forrest Otterman. A Masonic Funeral Service will be offered Monday morning at 11 o’clock followed by a Christian Funeral Service from The Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo, NJ where friends may call from ten until the time of service. Burial will follow in Seaside Cemetery, Palermo, NJ.
