BRASHER, ROBERT CARLTON – age 86, of West Cape May passed away, Sunday, October 11, 2015 at North Cape Center. Bob was born July 5, 1929 in Raleigh, NC in the home of his parent’s Minnie Pearl and Aubrey Brasher. After attending Hugh Morrison High School he graduated and went to Wake Forest for a year in pre-med education. Because of the Korean War, he joined the US Navy and received training at the Naval Electronics School in Kentucky. During his Navy service, Bob discovered his passion for electronics, so he pursued higher education at North Carolina State Univ.. He graduated with an Electronic Engineering Degree with Honors. Bob than worked for McDonnell Aircraft Co. in California implementing new fire controls for the Air Force’s rocket known as “The Genie” (once uncorked from the bottle, there was no escape as it carried a nuclear warhead). Later Bob worked at Cape Canaveral in Florida, as a instramential engineer and was involved in the first launch of the ” Minuteman”. Bob is survived by his loving wife: Elinor ;, his sister: Mary Lou Smith; four children: Bob Jr., Daniel, Michael, Patti. step sons, Todd, Chris and Mark Binnig; and 23 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. A Viewing will be held from 10:00 am- 11:00 am on Friday, October 16th at Cape May Lutheran Church, 509 Pittsburgh Avenue, Cape May, NJ and will be followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM.. A luncheon will be served at the church after the services . Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Warrenton, NC. 2 p.m. on Monday, October 19th.
