BENNETT, BETTY D., age 91, a former long-time resident of Cape May Court House, NJ, died on Friday, June 28, 2013, in Stuart, FL with her daughter at her side. She was born in North Wildwood, NJ at the Dr. Margaret Mace Hospital, the daughter of the late John and Edna Swain Douglass. Betty was a graduate of Middle Township High School and served in the WAVES during World War II. She was a life member of the Middle Township Alumni Association, the Stephen C. Ludlam Post #198 of The American Legion and the WAVES National. She also attended Pierce Business School in Philadelphia. She was employed by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders as a senior clerk typist; the NJ Board of Children’s Guardians; the W.J. Tyler Lumber Company, New Jersey Bell Telephone Company and The Village Shop of Stone Harbor. She also owned a children’s clothing store “The Tick Tock Shop” on Mechanic Street. She was a volunteer and volunteer supervisor at the Cheeri-Corner of the former Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital and chaired three charity balls for the benefit of the hospital. Betty is survived by her daughter, Susan B. Millman of Stuart, FL; two grandsons: Joshua S. Watson and his wife, Donna and Caleb B. Watson and his wife, Maria; four great grandchildren: Emily Anne, Samantha Swain, Connor Logan and Reiley Ashlyn. She was preceded in death by her husband George J. Bennett in 1981. At Betty’s request, a celebration of her life will be held on Friday, July 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the Baptist Cemetery, Church Street, Cape May Court House, NJ beginning with military honors followed by tributes offered by family and friends who are requested not to wear black but colorful clothing.
