ABATE, MARY LOUISE, age 85, of Cape May Court House passed away Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Cooper Medical Center of Camden, NJ. Mary Lou was born March 26, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA and has been a Cape May area resident for 47 years. She is the daughter of the late Russell J and the late Kathrine Pelstring. Mary Lou was a secretary for Bailey, Banks & Bittle Law Firm; owned & operated Powder Horn Antiques; and was a school bus driver for Special Services from 1984 – 1996. She was Catholic by faith and a member of St Elizabeth’s RC Church. Mary Lou loved antiques and was a great animal lover – especially dogs. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry Abate in 2000 and her brother Joseph R Pelstring. Mary Lou is survived by one daughter: Louise (Tim) Olden and one son: Philip Abate of Egg Harbor Township, NJ. Also surviving are her three grandchildren: Jennifer, Jarrett & Christopher; two great-grandchildren: Brynlee & Brayden; and her faithful dog Barney. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Cape May County Veteran’s Cemetery, 127 Crest Haven Road, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials in Mary Lou’s memory be made to Cape May County Animal Shelter,110 Shelter Road, DN 132, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
