Nov.’s Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Program Focuses on Coping During the Holidays

COURT HOUSE – Rutgers Cooperative Extension Family and Community Health Sciences (FCHS) will hold the next Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group on Tues., Nov. 22, 2016 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County, 355 Court House-South Dennis Road, Cape May Court House, New Jersey.
November’s program will include a presentation by Phyllis Kanarkowski,RN/MA, Older Persons & Caregivers Outreach Provider, Cape Counseling. She will discuss this challenging and stressful time of year for grandparents raising their grandchildren and offer some encouragement and advice.
Marilou Rochford, Family & Community Health Sciences Educator, Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Cape May County said, “Holidays can be a time of joy and excitement but for many of our Grandparents Raising Grandchildren families it can also be a time of sadness and anxiety.” Rochford added, “ In addition to the normal stress that accompanies the holiday season, our grandparents are also facing financial strain, experiencing a sense of loss, and the difficult task of being both a parent and grandparent.”
Childcare will be provided for the grandchildren. A light supper for the grandparents and grandchildren begins promptly at 5:30 p.m. and the program will follow at 6 p.m.
