NORTH WILDWOOD — The “Patriotic Essay” first place winners from VFW Post 5941 in North Wildwood are Molly McNulty from Wildwood Catholic High School, grades 9 to 12, and Cape Trinity Catholic, grade 8, Allison M. Fiore.
The essay themes, decided yearly by the national Veterans of Foreign Wars Commander, were distributed to local schools shortly after the start of the school year and were submitted to local VFW Posts by Nov. 1 to be judged. Winners at the post level were awarded a cash prize.
Winners at the post level are then submitted with other post winners from other Cape May County Posts for further judging at the district, state and national level for additional awards with top national award for grade 9 to 12 being a $30,000 scholarship, and grade 6 to 8 a $5,000 award.
Molly McNulty was also selected as Cape May County District 17 “Best Essay 2015” and will now move on to the state judging in Jan. 2016.
The post judging committee acknowledged the quality and diversity of this year’s essays, and the “Love of Country” and “Respect” for today’s veterans conveyed in this year’s essay themes.
