North Wildwood Police Sergeant Recieves Valor Award from 200 Club in Atlantic City

Sgt McGraw

By Press Release

NORTH WILDWOOD – Sergeant Adam McGraw of the North Wildwood Police Department received a Valor Award from The 200 Club of Atlantic and Cape May Counties at the 32nd Annual Cape/Atlantic Memorial Service and Brunch at the Tropicana Casino Ballroom in Atlantic City March 12, 2017. Sgt. McGraw received this award for his actions during Winter Storm Jonas Jan. 23, 2016.
During this shift, officers were conducting evacuations and transports in a 5 ton high water vehicle. Sgt. McGraw’s squad was dispatched to check on the welfare of a resident on the west side of the city. Upon arrival, after wading through waters over three foot deep surrounding the house to access the subject in the rear apartment, Sgt. McGraw and his officers encountered a victim who was suffering from life threatening injuries.
As supervisor, Sgt. McGraw rapidly assessed the situation and realizing the subject needed to be transported to the hospital as soon as possible, advised dispatch to have the fire department stage to keep their ambulance out of the high water in the area.  Maintaining his composure under highly emotional circumstances, Sgt. McGraw placed the victim over his shoulder and carried her through the high flood waters to the safety of a transport vehicle.
As a result of Sgt. McGraw’s accurate assessment and quick actions, he was able to help the victim obtain the help she needed as rapidly as possible.  His decisive actions and considerable efforts directly resulted in a life being saved.
The 200 Club of Atlantic and Cape May Counties is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing financial support for the families of police, fire and rescue personnel who have risked and lost their lives in the protection of our communities. Sgt. McGraw is pictured here with Chief Matthew Gallagher and Officers James Flynn and Bryan Skill. The North Wildwood Police Department appreciates Sgt. McGraw being recognized for this prestigious award.
