OCEAN CITY – The City of Ocean City is creating a community sculpture to remember and reflect upon the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. At the center piece of the memorial is a piece of the World Trade center. This new memorial will be located at the Fire Station at Sixth Street and Asbury Avenue.
At the request of Mayor Jay Gillian, the City received the piece of I-beam from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The City is working with Community Art Projects (CAP) and artist Jose’ Chora to design and build the memorial.
“We are honored to have this piece of the World Trade Center as the focal point of the new community sculpture,” said Mayor Gillian. “We hope this memorial serves as a place for reflection and remembrance of the heroism and heartbreak that occurred on that tragic day.”
The City will dedicate the memorial at the Sixth Street Fire House during this year’s Sept. 11 ceremony.
