By Sponsored Content

COURT HOUSE – The Cape May County 4-H Youth Development Program invites teens 8th grade and up to join a brand new teen club called Commun-A-Teens. The club’s first meeting will take place Sept. 18 at 6:30 p.m. and will include a pizza party.
The Commun-A-Teens 4-H Club will provide teens in Cape May County the opportunity to make new friends and take part in activities that promote healthy lifestyles and build confidence in leadership and communication skills. There will be a lot of fun interaction with other teens, and members will have the opportunity to spend time with college mentors.
The new club will emphasize healthy living and the environment. Members will have the chance to join the NJ 4-H Food & Fitness Ambassador Team, a group that provides healthy living education around the state. Community Service will be another major focus of the club, with many opportunities for volunteerism and giving back to the community. 4-H fieldtrips and conferences will also be available to members, including a regional teen leadership conference in March and national 4-H trips.
Commun-A-Teens will provide a safe social environment for teens that lives up to 4-H values of caring youth-adult relationships and learning by doing.
One of the new club’s leaders, 4-H alum Kylie Smith, notes that, “I am excited to encourage youth to get involved and learn more about the environment and their own health.” She adds, “while having fun!” Other club leaders include Annmarie Chelius, chef and professor at Atlantic Cape Community College, and Linda Horner, acting 4-H agent in Cape May County.
The meeting will take place at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Center at 355 Court House-South Dennis Rd., in Cape May Court House. Call (609) 465-5115 ext. 605 or e-mail lhorner@cape-may.nj.us for more information or to pre-register.
