SEA ISLE CITY – During Sea Isle City’s National Night Out celebration on August 2, hundreds of families frolicked at the resort’s Marina Park, 42nd Place and the Bay, during an evening that was filled with family-fun, great entertainment and must-have safety information. The annual event, which was once again hosted by Sea Isle City’s Police Department, also featured free gifts, free food, and free ride passes at Gillian’s Funland Amusement Park.
As the evening began, police officers handed-out 500 wrists bands to children, which allowed the kids to enjoy all of the rides at Funland for two hours. According to Police Lieutenant James Burke, one of the event’s organizers, it took only 90 minutes to distribute all 500 ride-passes, which were donated by the owners of Funland. Children also received many other free items during Sea Isle’s National Night Out, including coloring books, honorary police badges and keepsake fire helmets.
While live music by The Julianno Brothers Band filled the air, which was supplied courtesy of Sea Isle’s Springfield Inn, families enjoyed free pizza, hot dogs and cold drinks thanks to the owners of Casino Pizzeria and Camo-Dogs Hot Dogs.
Once their stomachs were filled, guests then strolled past a series of informational displays presented by Sea Isle City’s Town Watch/Town Pride, the Cape May County SWAT Team, the New Jersey Superior Court of Cape May County and other local organizations. Also distributing information was retired FBI Agent Jack Syron, of Mystic Island, NJ, who handed parents free identification kits, courtesy of the National Child Identification Program. The kits contained fingerprint identifiers and DNA swabs so parents could safely document their children’s unique, personal data.
During the evening, families were also invited to climb onboard emergency response vehicles, such as fire engines, ambulances, police cruisers and a 2.5-ton truck that was manned by members of Sea Isle’s Office of Emergency Management.
According to SICPD Sergeant Thomas McQuillen, 2011 was Sea Isle City’s most successful National Night Out to date.
“We had a huge turn-out of families,” said McQuillen. “The evening was a success because of an effort put forth from the entire community – not just the police department and other local emergency responders, but also local business leaders and many other volunteers who make Sea Isle City a great place to be. It was a terrific night and everyone enjoyed themselves!”
