COURT HOUSE – The Museum of Cape May County will host free lecture highlighting the role of Fort Delaware during the American Civil War.
Jacob Miller, Interpretive Programs Manager at Fort Delaware State Park, will bring to life the history and prisoner experience of Fort Delaware and how it impacted the history of the Civil War.
“The Civil War is perhaps the most devastating event in American history,” said Miller. “Besides the destruction and loss of life in battle, thousands of soldiers on both sides suffered as prisoners of war.”
According to Miller, Fort Delaware was one of the largest and best-known POW facilities in the Union. The lecture will focus on the experience of the approximate 33,000 prisoners who came through Fort Delaware and the ties to larger themes of the Civil War.
This lecture, which is being held in conjunction with the Cape May County Civil War Round Table, will take place Thur., Oct. 17 inside The Museum’s historic Smith Barn at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
