BROWARD COUNTY – Karen and Joe Minchelli, along with their yellow 1920 Ford Model T Speedster #5 race car, were invited, along with another 240 of the finest and rarest cars from around the world, to attend the 12th annual Boca Raton Concours D`Elegance at the Boca Raton Resort and Waldorf Astoria in Florida. The beneficiary was The Boys and Girls Club of Broward County, which couldn’t be more important to support now in light of the high school shooting tragedy that took place at the Stoneman Douglas High school less than 30 minutes away from this concours in Broward County.
The Minchellis wanted to go so far as to dedicate their win from the show to the victims and their grieving families of the school tragedy. Their car was awarded a major award of the event, which was called “The Spirit of the Road Award.”
The Boca Raton Concours D` Elagance has become a premier concours. Ranked in the top five concours in the country, next to Pebble Beach, in California, which a lot of the same cars attend. And if that wasn’t the highlight of the day, they even got the chance to talk to Jay Leno about their car, who was at the show along with Tim Alan and Wayne Corrine from Chasing Classic Cars TV show on hand as celebrity guest judges.
The #5 car is now on exhibit in a museum in South Florida for the next three months while the Minchellis await their next two concours: The Palm Event in Palm Beach, Fl. and The Keels and Wheels in Seabrook, TX. Then they are to drive the car in both the Memorial Day and Independence Day parades In Washington, DC. After a nice break over the summer, it’s on to doing more shows and a Vintage Grand Pre Race in Peekskill New York.
