COURT HOUSE – Middle Township High School and Mainland Regional High School in Atlantic Count will advance to the regional finals of the 2019 Vincent J. Apruzzese High School Mock Trial Competition after winning their preliminary rounds Jan 29.
The mock trial program, which includes public and private local schools, was designed by the New Jersey State Bar Foundation to teach students about the law, court procedures and the legal system.
In the preliminary mock trials, high school students competed against each other as they assumed the roles of defendants, attorneys and witnesses.
This year, four in Cape May County and nine public and private schools in Atlantic County participated in the competition. This year’s mock trial features a fictional civil case involving a roller coaster accident. The students play the roles of plaintiff, defendant, attorney, witnesses and jurors.
The vicinage’s mock trials were coordinated by attorneys Rebecca Lafferty, Julie Nugent, Eileen Oakes Muskett and Ciera Logan in Atlantic County and
Brett Yore, Ed Simonson and Steven Morris in Cape May County.
